Later that year she became the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Gale's Miss Lulu Bett was first published as a novel in 1920 and was immediately adapted for the stage in 1921. Joan Vail Thorne will direct the 7 PM reading of the 1921 play that will feature songs from the period performed by Sullivan ( Gentlemen Prefer Blondes). ![]() ![]() The cast will also feature Michael Countryman ( Mary Stuart, Night Must Fall), Greg Keller ( Smudge, The Seagull), Reed Birney ( Circle Mirror Transformation, The Savannah Disputation) and Stella Bernstein. Hecht, who began the Broadway season in Brighton Beach Memoirs and now stars in A View from the Bridge, will read the titular role of the independent spinster, with Sternhagen ( The Heiress, Steel Magnolias, Seascape) as Mrs. ![]()
